Specific learning disorder: Challenges and intricacies for a practicing psychiatrist

Abstract

Specific learning disorder(SLD) is a common neurodevelopmental disorder encountered in practice by a psychiatrist. Many challenges remain in eliciting history properly, assessing formally and diagnosing the condition. Lack of coordination among professionals add to the burden for the child and prents.There is an urgent need for developing effective tools for assessment and providing multi-disciplinary care at the earliest.
